Construction

Proposed changes to the construction adjudication process are contained in the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill.  The Bill has now passed from the House of Lords to the House of Commons, where the second reading is scheduled for Monday 1 June 2009.

Employment Tribunals

Over two thirds of solicitors questioned in recent research conducted by the Law Society, indicated that they favoured the removal of the current £25,000 limit for breach of contract claims in employment tribunals.

Commercial Litigation Costs

A preliminary report on the subject of litigation costs has been published by Lord Justice Jackson.  This report forms the first phase of an ongoing review which has now reached its consultation stages.

Internet Libels

A recent decision of the European Court of Human Rights (Times Newspapers Limited (nos 1 and 2) –v- the UK) has upheld the one year limitation period for internet libels and refused to hold that it is prima facie a breach of Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.  Where articles are published and accessed online, there is in effect a separate publication on each occasion the article is accessed.  This results in the limitation period for online publication being effectively extended indefinitely.  The judgment, however, included comment that a significant lapse of time before libel proceedings are brought may well disproportionately interfere with press freedom under article 10.

Careers

With us you need never work a 9 to 5 again.

We are always interested in talking to (and only engage) solicitors with five or more years post qualification experience and who possess strong commercial awareness and have a following. The reason for this is our clients need not only a successful outcome but also a commercial outcome, in terms of cost and speed of delivery.

In return we can offer:

  • Work/Life Balance – a traditional law firm would require you to work 24/7. With us you can have complete flexi-time (if you keep our clients happy then we are happy).
  • Technology – our technology allows closer collaboration with clients wherever you or they may be, with each client, on request, receiving their own secure web-page for each matter. This technology also allows for closer collaboration with colleagues in subject specialism or whole firm networks.
  • Branding – we supply branding and marketing and you can concentrate upon supplying top class service and building your network using the tools we can provide.
  • Better Rewards – all of our lawyers are remunerated on a work done and bills paid basis, not by a fixed salary.
  • Environmentally Friendly Working – no daily commute to the office, no large offices to maintain, web meetings are encouraged, we are working towards and encourage a paper free office.
  • Enjoyment – with the freedom to work when and where you like (see above) and your remuneration potential greatly in excess of the traditional law firm, you are likely to be happier than ever before in your career. We also hold regular events to enable you to meet up with your colleagues. Our clients benefit from lower turnover of solicitors (why would you want to leave?) and experienced and knowledgeable professionals who love their work!
